Nha Trang, Part Hai (or Deux or Whatever)

7/1 and 7/2:

The next two (yup, hai means 2 here) days were pretty much devoted to lounging – concentrated lounging. I started out with some pho (yes, again!) in the morning, then a fairly cheesy island boat tour called Mama Linh's.

Picture this – a wooden boat, crammed with a mix of 45 Vietnamese and foreign tourists. We get on at 9am, and are immediately harangued by the too silly to be real MC/guide to start drinking beer. Uh, no – still a bit early, thanks.

To help get the party started, he would then bust a little karaoke, a Titanic impersonation on the bow of the boat, and making sure the women new that if they wanted to kiss anybody, he was available. Painful.

On the plus side, we did get taken to four islands in the harbor, with a bit of swimming/snorkelling. There was also a water party – with wine/rum drinks as we floated around. Kinda fun, actually, but if you actually drank a bunch, you would have a legendary hangover.

The last two stops were pretty forgettable – a small rocky beach and an aquarium whose claim to fame is that it basically looks like a huge, paper mache pirate ship.

The plus side was that I completely splurged for dinner. Nha Trang features some cutting-edge Vietnamese restaurants and I got spoiled rotten, with fresh crab spring rolls, then sizzling beef served right at the table, complete with lemongrass/chili and vegetables that I wrapped around rice paper. Seriously delicious, and I had to amble back very slowly indeed to my hotel, completely satiated.

The last day was basically chilling out – with a lie-in, then a nice English breakfast facing the beach, along with updating all of my blog entries from Nepal and India. Since as ya know, I tend to get carried away... this took awhile.

An afternoon at the microbrewery with a fully loaded seafood pizza for lunch was the extent of it, then I was off for another sleeping bus up to Hoi An, a jewel of a town a bit south of Hue.
